Saddle Hut is the second overnight stop on the Mount Meru climb, reached after a steady 3-4 hour ascent from Miriakamba Hut as the trail leaves the forest behind and climbs into more open, rugged terrain along Meru's saddle ridge. Perched at a higher elevation with striking views over the crater floor, the ash cone, and, on clear days, across to Kilimanjaro in the distance, the hut offers a dramatic setting that highlights the volcanic character of the mountain. Many climbers use an extra day here to hike up to Rhino Point for acclimatization before attempting the summit, making Saddle Hut a crucial staging point for the final, challenging push to Meru's peak in the early hours of the following morning.
