Mandara Hut (2700m)

Mandara Hut (2,700m) is the first overnight stop on the Marangu Route, reached after a relatively gentle 3-4 hour trek from Marangu Gate through beautiful montane rainforest filled with towering trees, colorful birdlife, and the occasional sighting of colobus monkeys. As one of the distinctive A-frame hut camps that set the Marangu Route apart from Kilimanjaro's other tent-based trails, Mandara offers climbers a comfortable introduction to life on the mountain, complete with bunk beds, dining halls, and basic facilities. A short side trail near the camp leads to the Maundi Crater, a worthwhile detour offering panoramic views over the Kenyan plains, making Mandara Hut not only a restful first stop but also a scenic highlight early in the Marangu trekking experience.
